The Tong Family Travels through Australia

My Favourite Photos

This page has been set up to reflect my 3 most favourite photos from each location that we stayed at...as I like taking photographs and viewing photography is a very subjective thing there is a blurb about each set of 3 photos.

Broken Hill

IMAGE 1 - I love taking photos of something that is iconic and comparing my images with ones that I have seen in books or other media.  This photo captures the famous Silverton Hotel that has been used in countless commercials and movies.  To add to this image is the iconic vehicle from Mad Max!
IMAGE 2 - The Living Desert Walk was a real highlight for me and this image just captures all the natural colours experienced in this walk.
IMAGE 3 - Sculpture Symposium is one of those man-made highlights surrounding Broken Hill...to me it captures the artistic strengths of this area.  I particularly liked the leading lines of this photo leading to what is arguably the most iconic sculpture on this hill.

Woomera

IMAGE 1 - This image just captures some of the scenery around the Woomera area with very little or no trees...plenty of spinifex and on this occasion a dirt road leading somewhere past the horizon.
IMAGE 2 - I just loved this photo of caravans all parked at Spud's Roadhouse being illuminated by the neon lights and moonlight.
IMAGE 3 - Early morning at Woomera and this was probably my first use of 8x ND Filter...I liked the final outcome.

Coober Pedy

IMAGE 1 - Coober Pedy is a very unique location especially for the buildings that are actually underground rather than above it.  This image captures one of the churches in Coober Pedy and where Barbara's parents prayed when my mother's funeral was being held.
IMAGE 2 - One of the striking memories of Coober Pedy is seeing piles of dirt as far as the eye can see of man's endeavours to get the elusive opal.
IMAGE 3 - The Breakaways is such as beautiful place I could have chosen any of 20 plus photos.

Uluru

IMAGE 1 - The land that contains Uluru and Kata Tjuta is truly amazing and this photo captures some of this whilst incorporating a unique family moment.
IMAGE 2 - Uluru is probably one of the most iconic images of Australia and this image to me breaks the mould somewhat and captures a significant family moment.
IMAGE 3 - Just love sillhouette photos and this photo captures Uluru with Kata Tjuta in the background.

Kings Canyon

IMAGE 1 - Just love the flowers in the foreground as you absorb the part of canyon in the background.
IMAGE 2 - The Scenic Rim Walk was a real highlight for us as a family and this image captures the enormity of the canyon...a few steps to our right and there is a sheer drop of gigantic proportions.
IMAGE 3 - I just love this photo as it captures a tree sticking out from the side of section of canyon...nature has a way of establishing itself in the hardest locations.

Alice Springs

IMAGE 1 - Just love this image of a bird of prey taking off from his perch...Central Australia has so many birds of prey it is amazing.
IMAGE 2 - I love to take images that captures a different aspect of an animal.
IMAGE 3 - Alice Springs is uniquely placed amongst the MacDonnell Ranges and this photo at sunsetis my attempt to capture that.

Devils Marbles

IMAGE 1 - I love the way the walking path frames the rocks in this image.
IMAGE 2 - Devils Marbles is one BIG playground for Harrison and Braiden and this image captures some of this fun they had whilst highlight the uniqueness of the balancing rocks.
IMAGE 3 - Just love this silhouette of this rock...it was fantastic location for sunrises...just love it!

Mataranka

Mataranka is famous for their hot springs and the first two images captures some of this.  The last photo is of very tame juvenile Agile Wallaby...these animals mustn't be too agile as there was plenty of this animal as roadkill in surrounding areas.

Litchfield National Park

IMAGE 1 - Just an iconic photo!
IMAGE 2 - Florence Falls was a real highlight for us and I was determined to capture these falls minus the hundreds of people the day before.
IMAGE 3 - This was taken on the first serious photographic shoot with Harrison...I believe one of his photos is arguably better than mine!

Berry Springs

Chose these three photos as it my family but also captures the beautiful colours of the Berry Springs water.

Darwin

IMAGE 1 - Spur of the moment that captures the essence of Mindil Beach...relaxing as the sun sets!
IMAGE 2 - Saw this lone tree from a distance and was adament I would come back to shoot this...it was difficult as the tide comes in and out so quick.
IMAGE 3 - Fireworks Northern Territory style...scary!

Kakadu National Park

IMAGE 1 - The Adelaide Jumping Croc Cruise was a real highlight as we got so close to the crocs and their sheer power...loved this photo as captures the focus in the eyes of the croc before launching itself out of the water.
IMAGE 2 - Just loved this photo as it captures so many elements of this lookout with us in it!
IMAGE 3 - That morning cruise was magical...so much birdlife and beautiful colours.

Katherine

IMAGE 1 - The main gorge was purely spectacular.
IMAGE 2 - Loved this image with the blurring of the rapids.
IMAGE 3 - Family photo capturing one of the gorges.

Victoria River (Gregory National Park)

IMAGE 1 - As a family we have seen some pretty amazing lookouts and this was no exception.
IMAGE 2 - The view says it all.
IMAGE 3 - Just love the Boab Tree...this one was across the road from our free camping location.

Carnavon

IMAGE 1 - Just liked the way this was photo was taken...with the camera on timer looking backwards and hanging upside down near my ankles whilst walking...you can just see a tiny section of my ankle in the left hand bottom corner.
IMAGE 2 - A different angle on something that is iconic to Carnavon.
IMAGE 3 - Boys were fascinated by the blowholes.

Denham

IMAGE 1 - The dolphins at Monkey Mia...just like how this captures just how close and shallow the water is here when feeding them.
IMAGE 2 - Photo taken whilst exploring one of the many coastal lookouts...really like the little window effect.
IMAGE 3 - A blue tongue lizard in the middle of a dirt road...it took some time to move off the road.

Cervantes (The Pinnacles)

Just loved The Pinnacles...could of put any of the photos I took up here.

Kalbarri National Park

IMAGE 1 - Just an amazing location, an amazing view and an amazing natural occurance.
IMAGE 2 - Saw this stark landscape and I knew it had to be in black and white!
IMAGE 3 - Dawn shot of the Natural Bridge...the area gave a nice elevated view.

Geraldton

This was only a passing through location but had to include these photos of the HMAS Sydney Memorial...the thought behind it and the incredible synergy created in this memorial make it very special.
